What is your morning routine like? Today I am going to share mine. These are the 9 important things all we should follow before 9 am to have a fulfilled day and eventually a fulfilled life.
I never thought that these simple 9-morning rituals could change my life. I was a morning person, but without a purpose, until I went for a Vipassana 10-day course and started reading good books.
I was not living my life meaningful but was living life like a robot doing one thing after another in my day-to-day routine work.
I am from India and still, here most of the rules for Indian wives are to get up early and start the day for the comfort of other family members. And this routine gives immense joy and happiness to the housewife.
We are raised with the thinking that the wife’s job is to take care of the house and the family.
But at times this same routine causes discomfort, sadness, and an inferior complex leading to depression and loneliness. But I am grateful that I did everything an Indian housewife should do.
Life will be at peace only when we do things joyfully and with love.
It is not necessary to go to a meditation course away from home if your job or life is not permitting you. Everything comes in at the best of times when you start your life meaningfully.
But for now, simply following a simple morning routine can change your life as it changed mine.
Each morning we wake with 24 brand new hours in our hands. So to make the best day you should first check your morning.
Are you giving proper nourishment to your mind in the morning? because your morning mindset is what will stay with you for the whole 24 hours.
So let’s get started on how to make your morning meaningful with these 9 best things to do in the morning.
Morning Routine: 9 things to do before 9 am
1. Be an early riser
Waking up early gives you more time to be with yourself. We always find ourselves caught up in unnecessary chatting and gossiping, judging our neighbours, relatives, and friends as if we have taken their life responsibility.
Stop this habit and give this morning time to you and only for your development.
During the time of self-development 6 years back, I was struggling with time.
I had to complete my household chores, prepare breakfast and lunch, and clean the house before going to work and I hardly had time for myself.
I lived this kind of life for almost 25 years since my marriage.
I used to go to the kitchen as soon as I got up. I never understood bed tea. I used to drink the first tea of the day with a knife cutting vegetables, or cooking for lunch.
But one day I determined to live for myself too and I started waking up earlier than before and I started giving that extra hour in the morning only for me.
That is when I enjoyed my bed tea for the first time.
2. Wake up with a grateful heart
As soon as you open your eyes offer gratitude for the brand new 24 hours of your life. So many have left this world, and so many are struggling for good health. You are perfect and you are alive. Give thanks for it.
Set a reminder in your morning alarm so that when your morning alarm beeps it reminds you to be grateful.
When you start this habit of being grateful, you will experience more and more opportunities to feel grateful. I am experiencing this in my life.
3. Give time to beautify yourself
Start the responsibility of taking care of yourself by creating a little “me” time in the morning.
As soon as I finish brushing and washing my face I apply moisturizer to my face and hands. I do it with utmost love, care, and joy.
I pamper myself, I smile looking at the mirror and I am thankful for my beautiful skin.
Most women put moisturizer and cream on their face only when going out in my country and I was one of them.
When I started this habit of applying moisturizer and cream daily, I noticed a great change not only in my outer appearance but in my inner self too.
4. Offer Prayers
The habit of offering prayers in the morning will help you navigate your life in a better way. For me, prayer is talking to God.
I express my feelings and wishes and ask for the strength and wisdom to face the day. I pray for the peace and happiness in the entire world.
I write all my wishes and desires at the start of the month and pray for them to be answered. This habit is helping me to connect more with the universe.
5. Read motivational books
The habit of reading a motivational book is essential in the journey of self-development. Books help me to always keep a high spirit. The only thing is to choose the right book.
I am a widow and I need some suggestions and advice in between.
My morning reading helps me a great deal in this matter. Whatever question I have in my mind, I find that I get the answers in my morning read.

6. Give 10 minutes for Meditation
As the proverb goes “As exercise is to the body, meditation is to the mind.” To balance our life we need to give equal importance to our body and mind.
These two are inseparable. Your body expresses whatever is in the mind. So feed your mind with good and healthy thoughts.
Meditation is very helpful. Just 10 minutes in the morning will help you calm your mind. Be silent and watch your breath if you do not know about the meditation. This will help calm your mind. You can go for guided meditation.
7. Exercise
Moving your body at least for 10 minutes helps the blood to circulate and relaxes your body.
I had a severe back problem. But after including this routine in the morning I got rid of my back pain. Simply stretch your hands and legs, and do some breathing exercises.
8. Write a Journal
Writing a journal is the best part of my morning routine. It was this habit of writing a journal that led me to start this blog.
Make a habit of writing your feelings, wishes, gratitude everything in your journal. Writing in the journal will help you connect more with yourself.
You will start to know yourself better. And isn’t it the most important thing in life? To know your true self. When you start knowing you’re true you start to align with the universe.
This is the beginning of experiencing the abundance of the universe.
9. Drink your first tea with total mindfulness
Lastly, drink your first cup of tea with mindfulness. The habit of mindfulness is simply to be in the present moment.
When you hold your mug know that you are holding your mug. Take each sip of your tea, knowing that you are sipping your tea.
As Thich Nhat Hanh says, this is not just a tea, but a whole universe which is in your tea if you see it closely. The air, sun, rain, clouds, the earth, people and everything has contributed its part to making that tea come to you. This is the most precious tea.
If you only start looking at this morning tea mindfully you will come closer to the universe.
In one of the podcast episodes of “The Way Out is in” which I am listening currently to, Brother Phaphuu says what Thay his teacher once told him, “ We should eat our food, not our thoughts”
So this is how you can spend your morning wisely.
You are worthy of this morning time and I guarantee that you will start loving it!
