It’s been 4 years since I have been a stay-at-home mom. I am enjoying my life fully.
People often ask me whether I feel bored staying at home. They ask me, what do I do the whole day at home? They think I am the loneliest person staying alone at home when my daughter goes off for her work.
But believe me, I don’t feel bored and I don’t feel lonely. I don’t get time to feel these things. I have so much to do every day, and I am manifesting so many things in my life.
In this post, I am going to share with you how I spend my day as a stay-at-home. I believe this post might help you cope with your everyday life as a stay-at-home mom.
But firstly I’d like to give you a little bit of an introduction to myself and my thoughts on being a stay-at-home mom
My thoughts on being a stay-at-home mom
Every woman who is a stay-at-home mom has a different environment at home. Some women have many members at home, some have a baby to look after, some have aged in-laws at home or a sick member in the family.
So the situation for a stay-at-home mom is different, but whatever the circumstances in your life, it’s totally up to you to not lose your mind and heart while doing your duty towards your family and yourself.
Do not neglect yourself in the process of taking care of your loved ones.
Give priority to yourself. If you don’t, then who will? This is something I learned late in life, but I am so glad I did.
It’s now been 31 years of my marriage.
For 10 years I spent my days being a stay-at-home mom and as an ignorant stay-at-home mom. I was lonely although being surrounded by family. I was a miserable stay-at-home mom.
But for everyone, turning points do come. Life will give you an opportunity for your growth and progress. You must grab the opportunity.
I have experienced that until and unless you will not change the circumstances of your life will not change.
It’s been 4 years since I have become a stay-at-home mom again. My everyday routine has made my journey of staying a home mom very easy and rewarding.
Here I share my daily routine as a stay-at-home mom. This post might help you to make your comfortable routine.
My daily routine as a stay-at-home mom
My Day starts with my morning ritual. It starts by following a simple morning routine. It takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes. I get up at around 6 am and my morning ritual finishes at 9.30 am.
Morning Prayers
The first thing I do after refreshing myself is, start by offering my prayers. I am a Buddhist and it is a ritual to offer black tea, water, lights, incense, flowers and to chant a sutra. I follow this ritual sincerely.
I pray and thank for the beautiful brand new day, to give me wisdom and strength to spend my day in a positive and in total mindfulness.
Reading
After finishing my prayers, I make tea and sit with my tea for my next ritual which is reading books. I read a motivational book in the morning, and currently, I am reading ‘Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh. I also read a monthly journal ‘Value Creation’ daily.
These books keep me motivated throughout the day. Books are my guiding angel.
If you need any reading recommendations for your morning read, then here are the 10 books that changed my life.
Reading my old journal
I journal every day. And right after finishing my morning reading session, I read my last year’s journal. I read it to see how I spent my day last year, and how I am doing in the present moment.
I am in the process of progressing myself (as my blog’s name goes, ’ Mrs blone in progress) so reading my old journal helps me uplift myself.
Writing in my journal
After finishing reading my old journal I write in my current journal. I write about the happenings of the previous day. I write beautiful quotes from the current book I am reading. I write my goals and determination for the day.
At the beginning of the month, I write my achievements in the previous month, I write my target and prayers for the current month. This practice helps me track my progress in life.
For stay-at-home moms like me, a beautiful motivational morning read gives clarity and clears every confusion.
Exercise
I exercise for 10/15 minutes every day. I stretch my body. It helps to circulate the blood. It relaxes me and adds more life to my body.
Exercise helped me to get rid of the medicines. I was suffering from a slipped disc. I used to take medicine at intervals of time. Every time my back pain relapsed, I had to depend on painkillers.
Now I am free from painkillers. Due to my regular exercise, my back is getting strong. I have not experienced back pain for quite a long time.
Managing time for exercise is managing your life. A healthy body is the storehouse of a happy life. For a stay-at-home mom, this is an advantage that you have time on your hands so make the best use of it by giving time for exercise to keep you fit, fine, healthy and glowing.
You can join yoga classes or Zumba classes to maintain your health and keep your body in perfect shape.
Meditation
“Exercise is to the body and meditation is to mind.” Practising meditation helps my mind to be synchronized with my body. Our bodies and minds are not in the same place most of the time.
We will be eating our breakfast at the dining table, and our minds will be wondering what to cook for dinner.
It is very important to be in the present moment because you will find happiness only in the present moment.
I sit for 10-15 minutes every morning just observing my breath. I feel peace and happiness.
I try to carry that peace throughout the day. And the purpose of meditation is to be with ourselves in the midst of everything.
Believe me, if you practice observing your breath on a regular basis you will find yourself practising mindfulness and observing your breath while doing your regular chores at home or anywhere you go.
You carry peace with you because the tool to take you to the peace is with you, your breath. You are only required to observe it.
Writing a Blog post
My next and last morning ritual is writing for my blog which I have recently started. I give my heart and soul to writing my blog.
I wish to connect with as many women to share my journey and listen to them. I am happy that I am connecting with you right now.
I will share my life’s struggle, progress, success, and victory here.
Preparing for the day
After my morning ritual, my day starts with preparing breakfast.
Being a stay-at-home mom I have enough time to do my household chores and I love doing my household work by myself. I live in India and here most of us keep housemaids.
However I do not keep housemaids, so right after breakfast, I start cleaning the house. After making my house neat and clean, I start preparing for lunch right away.
My cousin who is also a single mother asked me whether I feel bored cooking food.
She says she makes easy-to-eat food, and most of the time it’s instant noodles. She says she has tried almost all the varieties of instant noodles.
I want to feed the best food to my body. I want to nourish it with home-cooked fresh food.
Our loved ones work hard to earn to feed us so why not make the best use of their hard-earned money on the best home-cooked food?
I then eat my lunch at 1 pm. After lunch, I go back to my room to watch one episode of a series on Netflix. I believe everything in moderation is good. One episode feels wonderful and refreshing!
Afternoon Nap
After watching one episode of a series, I take a short afternoon nap.
A short nap is refreshing for the body and mind. Our body needs love and care. Afternoon naps after the busy household chores and the lunch are rejuvenating.
This is the best moment of the day to come back to my body and soul while taking a rest.
An afternoon nap prepares me to add energy for the next half of the day. And to take a nap is a golden opportunity for a stay-at-home mom. Everyone does not get this opportunity. So do not miss it.
Watering the Plants
This is another interesting routine I love doing. I feel refreshed while watering my plants. I feel they are thanking me with a big smile.
I see them happy and alive with each droplet of water on them.
While watering I learn from them how to never give up, and how to stand firm in adversity. They are in a continuous process of self-development.
Some plants look as if they are going to die, but they are going through great changes inside. We just need patience and time. I learn to be patient and to wait and believe in them.
Evening Walk
Adding a walk to your everyday routine is beneficial and it helps to keep your body fit and healthy. I love to go for a walk and I prefer an evening walk.
My morning is occupied with my morning ritual so I enjoy my evening walk.
It won’t be fresh like morning but my body gets the movement.
My daughter listens to music while walking I love singing myself.
In between, I keep observing my breath while walking and keep sending my blessing to the passersby. I love this idea of sending peace.
The world at this current time needs love, peace, and compassion. I do my small part by sending peace while walking.
Evening Prayer
As I start my day by offering prayer for the day, I end my day with a prayer of gratitude. I chant for peace and happiness for every one of us. Evening prayer also reminds me of my goals and determination.
Evening Read
I read novels and autobiographies in the evening. I love reading in the evening. Reading fiction and autobiography helps me connect with more people, learn from their stories, and be inspired.
Books are my friend.
If you are a stay-at-home mom make the book your constant companion. It will never let you down. The only thing is to choose your company wisely.
Final thoughts
So this is basically how I spend my day and the activities that I do in my day as a stay-at-home mom which keeps me happy and at peace.
I am thankful for the ample time I now have, and I am happy that I am utilizing it properly.
My daily routine as a stay-at-home mom is making me manifest good things in my life. I believe these are the basic things to do in everyday life.
Make your routine most comfortable. Start with a small tiny step whichever way you like.
I started my morning routine with only one thing that is, chanting a mantra. I pray for peace and happiness for myself, my loved ones and the entire world.
This tiny routine of mine brought many changes. Slowly I got to read beautiful books of great people who inspired me a lot and added small little habits to my day.
So I would say, just start with one and make use of the wonderful time you have at home. Make time for yourself so you can give a better time to your family and kids!
Be Happy!
