I am a single stay-at-home mom. I have gone through many challenges in my life.
Within two years of marriage, I gave birth to my daughter.
With no good source of money and financial difficulties, I raised my daughter. When she was in her first year of college, my husband passed away. I am a single mom since the year 2015.
I was the most frustrated and short-tempered mom which made my relationship with my daughter bitter. But I realized my mistake early and started working for a better relationship and now we are best friends.
I learnt how to be calm and try my best to remain cool in difficult situations.
Here I am going to share 5 most effective tips for how to be a calm mom.
So let’s get started
How to be a calm mom
Being a calm mom is not a single-day process. To be calm needs patience and continuous practice. The world is really rushing and we are rushing really fast with it.
We have inherited so many difficult habits with us from our parents and environment knowingly and unknowingly. So it is difficult to reset the pattern.
But applying certain good habits in your day-to-day life can change your life. You can definitely do it for your kids if not for yourself.
And it is more important for moms to apply these beneficial habits while raising a kid.
When you are a calm mom you can nurture a good human being better.
You can give to the world the best son/daughter that is in urgent need of the hour, a good human being in this ruthless chaotic world.
Apply these tips and make them your habits in your day-to-day life to become a calm mom

1. Practice Mindfulness
As a mom, you need to be more mindful while handling kids. If you start scolding and complaining to your kid for every small mistake they make, then it can turn into an unpleasant relationship.
Be mindful of your speech, action and your thoughts.
Meditation is the best tool to practice mindfulness. Give at least 10 minutes of your day for meditation and your day will be peaceful, joyful and happy.
When I used to be frustrated with any of the family members I used to be rude to my daughter and used to pour all my anger on her.
I used to scold her for even a minor mistake.
This was because of the uncontrollable anger and frustration within me and did not have much to do with her. Meditation helped me become calm. With mindfulness, I knew my anger was there and I stopped reacting to my anger making me a calm mom.
2. Practice Gratitude
Being grateful for anything in life is to be humble and down to earth. Make gratitude your habit and a way of life.
Gratitude is the most effective positive emotion. Gratitude is like a pause button for life to appreciate everything life is offering you.
You have the most beautiful thing your life offers, and that is, your kid.
If you are full of gratitude, it’s easy to be a calm mom.
With this emotion of gratitude, you can be the calmest mom in the entire world.
3. Practice Self-care
In taking care of the home, family and kids, as moms, we neglect to take care of ourselves.
Give number one priority to yourself. If you do not take care of yourself no one is going to do it for you and this will leave you frustrated and angry.
When you are messy outside, your inner self will also become messy.
A messy mind is always an agitated mind.
When you are messy inside you will reflect that in your face too.
Give time for self-care. Self-care is not only about getting the perfect dress and using make up to look beautiful. It’s also about taking care of your inner self.
You can take care of your inner self by reading good books, meditating, exercising, praying, writing in a journal or creating any hobby.
These small self-care technique helps you to keep yourself calm and in peace.
4. Listen to music
Music helps us keep calm. Its melodious sound works as a healing balm to our minds.
Play any chanting you love in the morning and in the evening to make a calm atmosphere at home.
The atmosphere affects our minds. When you are in a peaceful environment you will automatically become calm.
5. Say No
You are not a machine that you will do everything by yourself.
In India, the mentality of most families is that the bahu (daughter-in-law) has to do everything, from cleaning, washing, cooking, and taking care of her husband, family and kids.
If you relate this sentence, I request you to change your and your in-laws’ mindset. Saying yes to everything is not an act of responsibility as a daughter-in-law but foolishness.
You are only giving them an opportunity to them to make you overload with more responsibility. Stop here and say No if you feel impossible.
You cannot remain calm with all those burdens of work. You lose the opportunity to be with your kid who is your no one priority.
6. Seek help
Seeking help from your spouse, your kid, and other family members is no harm. Your spouse and family won’t know your problem if you keep quiet.
If you do not share your burden and d workload, and do everything by yourself then you won’t be happy.
You will do things out of compulsion not from your heart. This feeling will not give you peace but rather make you feel depressed.
To become a calm mom, it is very important to be wise. Seeking help is the wise thing for you and for your kid and your family.
7. Give freedom to your kid
As a mother, it is very natural to be protective of our child, but being overprotective is harmful both to the kid and the mom.
Let siblings solve their quarrels by themselves.
Let them play freely. Trust them.
By trusting them you will win their heart and they will also trust you and make you friends for lifetime.
To be your kid’s best friend is the most beautiful feeling of happiness and peace.
Whatever the age of your kid, start giving that freedom with total trust in him/her.
I am now a calm mom because I trust my daughter in whatever she does.
8. Pray
Praying is like talking to God. Express whatever is there in your heart to God, the Universe or whomever you believe. Pray with total faith.
Prayers give you a sense of security and peace. When you surrender your problem to God there is nothing left for you hence, you will become lighter.
Do not pray only for you and your family instead, pray for world peace. You cannot remain in peace when the world is in chaos.
Praying for others is the kindest of act. A kind heart is always peaceful and your day will unfold with calmness.
